After breakfast, leave the coast behind and travel north towards Wilpattu National Park, Sri Lanka’s largest national park and one of the island’s most rewarding wildlife destinations.
The landscape gradually changes as you travel through quieter countryside towards the park.
Your home for the next two nights is The Ibis, a charming rustic bungalow set beside a tranquil lake and surrounded by lush wilderness. Its intimate setting makes it an ideal base for exploring Wilpattu, offering a feeling of being immersed in nature rather than simply staying beside a national park.

Day 03 – Into the Wild | A Day on Safari
Today, discover the untamed landscapes of Wilpattu National Park with both a morning and evening jeep safari.
Wilpattu is renowned for its distinctive villus, natural lakes and water-filled depressions scattered throughout its forests and grasslands. These provide important sources of water for the park’s wildlife and create some of its most beautiful scenery.
Keep your eyes open for Sri Lankan leopards, elephants, sloth bears, spotted deer and wild buffalo, alongside an impressive variety of endemic and migratory birds.
Return to The Ibis between safaris to relax and enjoy the tranquillity of your surroundings before heading back into the park in the late afternoon.
As the golden light begins to filter through the trees, the wilderness takes on a completely different character.

Day 04 – Journey to the North | The Road to Jaffna
After breakfast, continue your journey towards Jaffna, the cultural capital of Sri Lanka’s Northern Province.
The drive itself becomes part of the experience as you travel through landscapes that have a distinctly different character from the rest of the island. Pass through Omanthai and Elephant Pass, a historically significant crossing that connects the Jaffna Peninsula with mainland Sri Lanka.
Arrive in Jaffna in the late afternoon and check into Jetwing Jaffna, a contemporary city hotel that provides a comfortable base from which to discover the fascinating culture and heritage of the North.
Spend the evening at leisure, perhaps taking a gentle stroll through the city or enjoying your first taste of Jaffna’s distinctive cuisine.

Today, begin discovering the character of the Jaffna Peninsula.
Visit the historic Jaffna Fort, explore the renowned Jaffna Public Library and continue through the peninsula towards Kayts, experiencing the quieter landscapes and communities that make northern Sri Lanka so distinctive.
The day becomes more personal as you visit a traditional Jaffna home and farm. Meet local residents, learn about their daily lives and gain an insight into the traditions, food and customs that have been passed down through generations.
Later, visit the magnificent Nallur Kandaswamy Kovil, one of the most important Hindu temples in northern Sri Lanka. The temple’s striking architecture and deeply spiritual atmosphere offer a fascinating glimpse into the religious traditions of the region.

Day 06 – The Forgotten Island | Discover Delft
Today is one of the most distinctive experiences of your journey.
Set out by boat towards Delft Island, a remote and fascinating island lying between Sri Lanka and India. Known locally as Neduntivu, Delft feels worlds away from the bustle of mainland Sri Lanka.
Your host for the day is a local pastor who originally comes from Sri Lanka’s tea country but has made Delft his home. Through his eyes, discover the island not simply as a visitor, but as a place where people live, work and preserve generations-old traditions.
Explore the remains of the Delft Fort, encounter an ancient baobab tree and discover the island’s traditional palmyra-based crafts and way of life.
Keep an eye out for the island’s famous wild ponies, believed to have descended from horses introduced during the colonial period.
The experience culminates with a wonderfully simple lunch shared with your host and his wife at their home, a genuine opportunity to sit down, share stories and experience the warmth of northern hospitality.
Return to Jaffna in the afternoon.
Overnight Stay: Jetwing Jaffna, Jaffna
Day 07 – A Day at Your Own Pace | Discover Jaffna
After several days of discovery, today is yours to explore Jaffna at your own pace.
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast before venturing into the city independently. Browse the local markets, discover small shops and cafés or revisit some of the historical sites that have captured your imagination.
Alternatively, simply slow down and enjoy the comforts of your hotel.
Jaffna is best experienced without rushing, watching the city move around you, discovering its flavours and appreciating the unique character of northern Sri Lanka.

Day 08 – From the North to the Ancient Kingdoms | Anuradhapura

Explore the ancient city, where ruined palaces, temples, statues and enormous reservoirs reveal the sophistication of Sri Lanka’s medieval civilisation. Among the highlights are the magnificent Gal Vihara, with its monumental Buddha images carved directly into the granite.
Later, return towards the Sigiriya area.
As the afternoon cools, make your way to Sigiriya Rock Fortress for a spectacular sunset experience. Rather than climbing in the heat of the day, the evening light provides a magical atmosphere as you ascend the ancient rock and watch the surrounding forests and plains turn golden beneath you.
Return to Forest Rock Garden after sunset.
Overnight Stay: Forest Rock Garden Resort, Anuradhapura
Day 10 – The Sacred City | Ancient Anuradhapura
Today, discover the ancient kingdom of Anuradhapura, one of Sri Lanka’s greatest archaeological treasures and a centre of Buddhist civilisation for more than a thousand years.
The ancient city stretches across an extraordinary landscape of sacred sites, monasteries, reservoirs and monumental stupas.
Explore some of its most significant monuments, including the immense Ruwanwelisaya, the ancient monasteries and the sacred Sri Maha Bodhi, believed to have grown from a sapling of the original Bodhi tree under which the Buddha attained enlightenment.
Take your time to appreciate the scale and serenity of the ancient city before returning to your hotel.
