The best source of salt in the land is Hambanthota. Located nearly 170 km south of Colombo. known as a second commercial hub of the country after Colombo. This was established by King Mahanaga around 200 BC. It was an agricultural area, and a large network of irrigation canals, fed by rainwater-collecting reservoirs, were built by ancient Kings to support the farming in the dry climate of Hambantota. Here you can see Kataragama temple, Magul viharaya and also safari of yala, Bundala, Kumana national parks.
